By request: My Recap of the Leaked Tell-All video.

A slow descent into madness: an exhaustive recap of the tell all leak
Supposedly the leaked video (clocking in at 10+ hours) was the second day filming.
I watched the entire thing. This is a rambling list of the thoughts going through my mind while watching, and a fairly comprehensive timeline / summary of events, or at least the juiciest parts. I believe it becomes fairly obvious when my mental state started to decline - I was well into the 5th hour by then.
Part 1: David
The show begins an hour into the video.
A lot of time was spent on David. Asking David the same questions, hoping he’d get a clue. Instead he doubled down on his delusion.
David started in this endeavor by going on two trips with a friend over 20 years ago. He states he did not like it - 25 guys meeting 400 women in a big bar. He said it was horrible - he called the women aggressive and professional daters. He went on another trip with 10 guys meeting maybe 40 women in different cities. He describes receiving catalogs of women and selecting specific ones to meet on the trip. A friend he met on one of these trips introduced him to a web site in 2007.
Lana does not work for the web site or get paid. According to David, the web sites are US sites, they contract through the agency that vets the “girls”. He insists Lana derives no income from the web site or agency. It’s illegal for him to contact her directly? He pays in order to not be scammed.
He has known Lana for 7 years. She was too young at the start - he won’t “date” anyone under 25. He wasn’t talking to Lana for 2.5 years. He’s “dated” 30 girls in Ukraine when he wasn’t talking to Lana. He’s been to Ukraine 20 times. He’s been engaged twice to women over there (and twice in America.)
David says Lana is very poor. Has very few clothes and possessions. She only has five pairs of shoes and gets a new pair of sneakers every 3 years or so. She doesn’t speak English. He bought her an iPhone to talk directly but she doesn’t like the keyboard because of her long fingernails. She can’t talk directly to him on the computer because the agency owns the laptop and monitors activity.
He’s spent $250,000 to $300,000 on “dating” on these sites. He claims he’s a millionaire so the money is no object.
Friends of David appear, say their piece, then disappear.
Cesar appears. David had talked to Maria years ago. Said she was high maintenance.
Yolanda and Usman join in. Usman has poor connection. Usman leaves.
A wild Tom appears. Tom compliments Yolanda’s weight loss. Says he’s not hitting on her, just complimenting her.
Tom doesn’t watch much of the show. Says David is his “fast forward couple”.
Cesar says he visited Maria. Maria wasn’t happy he showed up. But she met him, they took photos, she asked to see his phone and he realized later she deleted the photos. They spent 10 days together, he got a couple of pecks on the cheek and lips? But no intimacy. Specified no tongue. Maria was “pissed off” that he showed up, refused to meet Cesar if the cameras were there. Wanted him to buy her a $500 pair of shoes and $300 dinner.
Tom asks if he packed the chocolate panties. Cesar said he took the beaded candy ones.
Yolanda said Cesar DMd her and left his phone number. Cesar says Yolanda is beautiful and that he “loves chocolate” with a Pervy laugh. But he says he was just reaching out as friends. Shaun asks Cesar if he DMs Tom. Tom confirms that he did, and that the alumni reach out to each other.
Shaun asks Yolanda if she would date Cesar, she replies with an emphatic no.
David went back to Ukraine and met Lana. They kissed, no other intimacy. He proposed, she accepted (they show clips.) Lana is still on the dating sites. David is still on the dating sites because Lana is. Lana is still on the site because that’s where her only friends are, David basically describes her as a shut in with no friends.
At one point later in the show he drops the bombshell “love has nothing to do with it.”
Ed appears. He’s holding Teddy (against the dog’s will) on his lap. Ed shouts into his mic. He yells repeatedly about David being scammed for the better part of 18 minutes.
David gets excitable. Yells about this being bullshit. Yells at Tom that Darcey was still talking to other guys.
The current status of the relationship? David thinks they’re not together. He hasn’t communicated with Lana in 6 days. But their engagement hasn’t been broken. So they’re engaged but no longer together?
Lana refuses to participate because she’s getting hate mail from guys who have seen the show accusing her of being a scammer.
Stephanie appears.
Stephanie says she thinks it’s disgusting that Lana is being discussed like she’s a commodity. Points out that their relationship is transactional. David and Ed are screaming at each other over her. Stephanie Commends David for not worrying about spending $100,000 while Ed freaked out about spending $2.
A clip of David proposing to Lana with a prop fake ring shows. David says the jeweler advises not buying a real diamond because he didn’t know her ring size. Says she wants to choose her own ring.
Return to Ed and David arguing.
Usman appears.
David is getting heated.
Bottom Line: David’s retiring to move to Ukraine, but started the K1 process.
Shaun wraps the segment with David still arguing at the 3-hour mark. Shaun leaves (possibly to drink heavily - I would be if I was her.) I forgot to note that at some point Tom made a remark to Ed about him not being able to see his toes. It was a joke, but went completely missed by everyone else.
David, Ed, Stephanie and Usman chit chat. Usman sings a bit.
Part 2: Yolanda
We resume at 3:30 with Yolanda.
Yolanda had the flu at the beginning of December. She was in a coma for a month and was on a ventilator for 3 weeks. Her kidneys and liver were failing. Her doctor now believes she had Covid-19.
She did not hear from Williams during that time. She heard from him just a couple of months ago. She didn’t tell him about her coma, he was talking about his aunt dying so it “didn’t come up.”
He didn’t reach out directly, he went through “sweetberry” (?) on Instagram to ask if he could contact her again.
Yolanda’s daughter and a PI the daughter hired join in. PI says the accounts have ties to Nigerian scammers.
Usman joins. He knows nothing about Nigerian scammers, doubts they’re Nigerian.
Usman leaves. Darcey joins. She’s wearing a platinum blonde wig, primping a bit, trying to center herself on the bed she’s sitting on. She’s nodding along to absolutely nothing, shaking her head and smiling periodically like she’s involved in a totally different conversation than we are seeing.
Daughter and PI leave. Shaun asks Darcey what she thinks about Yolanda and Williams. Darcey goes into a spiel about being a target and people on IG preying on her. Starts talking about Jesse and Tom. Says she spent a lot of money on Jesse, says she helped Tom financially and bought him clothes and gifts. Goes into a tangent of non-specific items, won’t provide a direct answer on how much she spent but finally claims she spent $2000 on Tom.
Erika appears.
Shaun tries to get back on the topic of Yolanda and Willams. Shaun asks Erika about her opinion on The Williams mystery IG account and the blackmail.
Darcey uses that opportunity to talk about being targeted by a “network of people” that was calculated by “people in different countries to target certain people around the world.”
“Maybe Nigeria was a part of it, Maybe England was a part of it”. After Tom, Darcey says she met someone who targeted her, says it was a couple she knew and Tom was a part of it, says IP addresses traced to Nottingham and there’s a network of people targeting women around the world.
Darcey claims her second time in Amsterdam she was robbed while shopping after Jesse told her to leave her passport if she was going out shopping. Later says pickpocketed. Implies that the robbery was a setup by Jesse.
Shaun tries to redirect the subject back to Yolanda and Williams.
Lisa appears.
Lisa jumps right in with her expertise about Yahoo Boys, G-Men and grooming people. Darcey drops off and Usman reappears.
Lisa’s gravelly voice takes on a fake Nigerian accent as they yell “baby love” at each other.
Lisa goes on about her social media expertise. Explains the three different cultures of Nigeria. She tells Yolanda to join the Facebook Group SSA: Scamming Scammers Action that Lisa is a big part of.
They convince Yolanda to try to call Williams on speakerphone. No answer.
Lisa is also an expert in African and Nigerian accents FYI.
Erika leaves. David reappears.
Lisa dominates the conversation. Keeps recounting conversations and events of hackings and stuff.
Lisa starts talking about Blood Rituals. Sacrifices. Money rituals. Voodoo dolls. Kidnappings. Killing people to bring luck in scamming people. They believe in black magic and juju. Lisa and Usman keep interrupting each other. Usman has never heard of this. Lisa insists this is real. Go to SSA on Facebook, all the proof is there.
Yolanda, David and Shaun are stunned silent.
Usman is trying to fact check Lisa’s completely far-fetched theories. Lisa purses her beak.
Finally, Shaun redirects.
Yolanda says she’s done. If she hears from Williams again she’s done.
Yolanda is getting DMs all the time offering to FaceTime her. David tells her to go get her Groove back in Jamaica. Yolanda and David both get DMs encouraging them to hook up since they’re both in Vegas.
We are 5 hours 10 minutes in. Let’s see a clip! We see Lana before she met David. She’s at the gym. She’s walking around Kiev in a silver puffer jacket and Nikes. She using her iPhone (with her short nails) to take pictures. She’s shopping for makeup. She’s sipping a latte in a cafe while typing on her laptop. She’s talking to a friend on her iPhone. She talks about America. She knows that you can get married quickly in Las Vegas. She tells her friend she has an exciting day tomorrow “I’m meeting an American.” Her friend asks if he’s wealthy.
Shaun points out the inconsistencies in Lana’s apparent poverty and David’s understanding of her circumstances. David says “that’s not real”.
We spent the next 10 minutes or so with Yolanda, Usman, Lisa and Shaun trying to talk some sense into David. It doesn’t work.
Shaun leaves for a break.
Ash appears. We spend the next while discussing quarantine. Ash hadn’t heard about Yolanda being sick, his eyes get wide when he hears her coma tale.
They’re talking about lockdowns and restrictions and being able to go where you want. David thinks they’re talking about Ash being able to visit the US on his Australian passport.
Lisa’s ex-husband just got out of prison.
David lives in a rental house that’s being sold in a month.
Yolanda asks if people read their tweets.
Lisa has a stalker with 25 accounts. Lisa now has her phone number and address. She’s going to have her arrested and “put charges against her”.
David gets death threats.
Back to Yolanda and the Covid.
David leaves.
Tom returns. He asks how many bottles of lube Lisa and Usman used raw dogging it. She said none - I’m guessing she just peed on him a la Dinyell.
More R-rated banter. Lisa tells Tom to ask about Usman refusing to join the mile high club.
Ash looks stunned into silence. Maybe a bit frightened. He’s retreated to his nothing box.
Usman tries to explain about the 70%, that it’s a B and a compliment. Tom asks why she paid twice the going rate for a goat.
Lots of goat talk. Peeing goat talk. Showering the goat. Walking in sandals through mud and goat shit.
Tom makes a crack about not being the only cast members showering with animals. Ash asks about Ed showering with Rosemarie’s father? Then his feed goes out.
Lisa starts talking about gross food. Tom are goat brain in Albania. Lisa starts everything with “Usman, tell them about the time...” then just talks over him to tell the story herself.
Stephanie appears.
Ed appears.
Usman leaves. Lisa tells them about the armed convoy everywhere they went. Ed wants to know about the goat. More goat tales.
7 hour 10 minute mark.
Part 3: Lisa and Usman
Shaun is back with Lisa and Usman. We lose Usman.
Lisa had surgery.
She hurt her baby toe before going to Nigeria. Ruptured a blood vessel. It swelled up in Africa. Returned to the US with a dead/dying toe. Got infected, went gangrenous, was amputated.
Usman returns.
The next segment is insufferable.
Usman says Lisa calls him a N***** frequently. Lisa screams about opening a can of worms.
Usman asks if American women are all like this.
Lisa and Usman are married but keep blocking each other.
Lisa is Usman’s first serious relationship.
Lisa freaks out about women on Usman’s comments and in his DMs.
Says she’s seen the other girls Usman dated, they’re “3 times my size”.
They fight about Trish Playtas.
Lisa talks over Usman. Yells, curses, threatens.
Enter Giant and Aba (?) after 25 minutes of toxic bullshit.
Lisa talks about getting “gangbanged”. (I think she means ganged up on, but she’s so cringe who can tell.)
Lisa has a screaming match. Hangs up because she was “mistreated and disrespected”.
Enter Lisa’s friend Nikki.
Nikki screams about disrespect for the next forever. Lisa returns.
There’s endless raspy screeching about bitches, clowns, motherfuckers and more disrespect. Fuck you. Fuck outta here.
Shaun loses all control.
Aba and Nikki scream at each other some more.
Shaun gives up. She is writing something just below the screen. I suspect it’s her resignation letter.
Finally Shaun redirects the conversation. She brings up the polygamy.
If Lisa has an egg and can tote it, Usman doesn’t want another wife. If Lisa can’t squat and hatch Usman’s offspring, he will take another wife.
Cue Lisa’s expertise on polygamy.
Clip Roll: the night before the wedding, Lisa storms off and disrespects Usman’s brothers the night before the wedding.
Lisa cackles.
Avery and Ed appear.
Usman and Lisa keep arguing.
Shaun asks Avery’s perception. Avery asks “where is the love?” All she sees is them screaming over each other and assert themselves.
Before Lisa can respond Ed jumps in.
Lisa calls the kettle black and says Avery and Ed aren’t portrayed well.
Ed started to watch the show after he decided to be on it.
Ed compliments Usman for being calm and respectful and not using any foul words.
Lisa Cackles. Ed calls her a bull in a china shop “no disrespect”. Says he thought she was the definition of a narcissist, but says she’s actually the definition of delusional.
Lisa interrupts. Usman starts singing. Lisa and Ed scream over each other. Lisa tells Avery to shut up, says she went on Ed’s live drunk and making an ass of herself. Ed keeps screaming “delusional”. Lisa calls Avery a drunk. Avery tells Usman “not all American women are like that”, Lisa rebounds with “that’s why Ash dumped your ass.” Ed tells Usman there are many more nicer women.
Ed: she treated you like a piece of shit. She treated you like a slave.
Lisa: you are a piece of shit!
Ed: you made America Sick!
Lisa: Ed Fuck You! Fuck You!
Lisa: you abused Rose to go on this show because no fucking other woman would! You fucking used her (x 5). Shut the fuck up.
More screaming over each other.
Usman begs Ed to calm down.
Lisa: you’re going to let this fucking pervert who’s got charges for sexual harassment... you’re going to let this idiot come at me with the fucking charges he’s got? This fucking pervert has been grooming women. The women are coming out of the woodwork saying Ed has molested them, he’s groomed them, and god only knows what the fuck else he did to them.
More screaming.
Ed: the internet is fake!
Lisa: Harry (producer) remove these two right now!
Lisa calls them Thing 1 and Thing 2 and demands Harry remove them.
Ed gets cut.
Lisa continues to scream at Avery about glass houses.
Tom appears.
Usman is yelling now.
Shaun tries to gain control.
Tom: I was nervous delivering that letter to Darcey but coming in to this conversation is wild!
Shaun brings up the polygamy subject again.
Lisa might move to Nigeria for The Other Way.
Shaun disappears.
Avery drops.
Lisa says “Tom, this is all for show. It’s a dog and horse, pony show I call it.”
Tom blows smoke up her ass. His idea of love is apparently jealousy, anger and disrespect. He says it’s obvious they love each other because apparently only people truly in love can be that hateful and vicious and angry to each other.
Shaun is back. Darcey appears. Usman is singing. Darcey is swaying to Soja Boy, slurring, “do it big! Lisa, Be the queen!”
Darcey’s been in the sauce.
Usman tells Lisa to cover her bra.
More second wife talk.
Tom asks a question about what kind of second wife Usman would have. Darcey says something. Shaun asks Lisa a question. Usman freaks out and screams “Tom asked me a question, let me answer the question”. This leads to Lisa screaming at Shaun about disrespecting Usman, screams at the producer “you better tell this hostess to shut her mouth” shut up! Shut up!”
Usman keeps yelling. Shaun trying to calm everyone.
Lisa: Barb! Barb! Barb! Do you hear me? It’s time to cut her now! Barb! Cut her now! Barb! Cut the fucking thing, cut it now! She’s disrespecting Usman! Fucking stop it! Stop it barb! Fuck off!
Darcey looks like a confused bobble head.
Lisa hangs up.
Usman and Darcey talk about Trish Playtas.
Darcey: things are don’t differently in America, I’ve been in the entertainment industry way before Tom, way before Jesse.
Usman starts to explain going live with Trish.
Lisa returns.
Part 4: Wrap Ups and “where does your relationship stand?”
Shaun turns to Darcey and Tom, asks where the future of their relationship is. Lisa and Usman respond loudly, not letting them talk.
Finally, Lisa and Usman are gone.
Tom: friends maybe blah blah blah great mom, good person, wish you the best.
Darcey: my journey, my daughters, my brother who passed blah blah blah don’t want toxic negativity
Ash and Avery return: same question
Ash is worried about his hair being cut off on the screen.
Ash started the journey with the intent to propose. Says he loves her. Breaking up was the hardest thing. Future is going to be looking after his family.
Ash answers the question in a concise, straight forward manner.
Just kidding. He uses a lot of words to absolutely avoid answering anything.
Avery says this is a hard question to ask someone who just separated. She trails off. I think... I don’t... I wanted... honestly...
Erika and Stephanie return: where do you stand?
Not even friends. Can they ever be friends?
Stephanie says best case is friends from afar.
Erika says they’ve been friends and fought many many times. She came in today wanting to speak and wasn’t able to do that, but doesn’t hold any hate. It’s going to be hard to see any of this in a positive light.
Erika didn’t get a change to express that she took a big step coming out to her parents then Stephanie dumped her the next morning.
Stephanie came out to her mom too apparently, but it wasn’t like Erika’s coming out (receptive and kind).
Pick up lines:
Asking what they’ve been doing during the quarantine, will air at the beginning of the show.
(Erika makes earrings!)
Shaun has to rephrase the question to Stephanie to ask specifically about... HER ILLNESS!
Bet you didn’t see that one coming.
Yolanda wrap up: no more online dating. She’s going to meet men at the market or the casino. Old school.
Ed wrap up: who cares.
Ok. I guess we do.
Shaun asks about the shower. I just can’t listen to him anymore. Then she asks about the first night they were intimate. I’m going to barf.
Ed takes full responsibility for “not the things I did, but the way I did them”. Rose is mad at him right now. She wanted to reconcile February 9.
Ed is taking a break from dating (sorry ladies!) but Rose taught him to love again and “she didn’t destroy me like my first marriage did.”
His mom is moving in with him. But she’s a nurse so hasn’t moved in yet. Ed’s mom is a nurse caring for a young child with a tracheostomy.
Ed sucks, but a round of applause for Mother Ed is deserved.
David wrap up:
David is going to retire earlier than planned because of the recession resulting from the quarantine.
Shaun asks about the first kiss.
David says something about bowling. He bowls 4 strikes with Lana.
The girls in Ukraine love bowling but don’t get to do that. So he takes them. He bets kisses for every strike he bowls.
Lana is upset over the publicity from the show. Gets physically ill in front of the camera.
If she won’t come to the US or dumps him, he will live part time in the Ukraine - 3 months at a time - to continue dating women there.
It’s over. Thank God.

Montreux - what to see, top attractions

Swiss Riviera on the shores of Lake Geneva - Montreux! Why you need to go there, what to see and where to go in Montreux and the surrounding area, as well as how to get there and where to live.
The pandemic disrupted my travel plans a little, but the whole rhythm of life. And that was a big blow to me. During 2019 - early 2020, I traveled almost non-stop, making only rare stops in Kiev (I'm from Ukraine).
One of the most striking travels is the Swiss Alps, Lake Geneva and the part of France that borders Switzerland. Today I will tell you about Montreux, a trip to this city was largely due to my local friends. Thank you guys!

The main attractions of Montreux

Montreux is a very small city and I cannot say that it has the beauty that we are used to seeing in ancient European cities. Montreux is more modern than historical. Usually my main criterion for evaluating a city is whether I want to return? So you want to come back to Montreux again and again, or even better - stay here for a while.
If time is short, just walk along Lake Geneva, this will be enough to fall in love with Montreux. You can heighten your senses by looking at the city and the surrounding Alps from the water with a glass of champagne or local dry white.
The main thing in Montreux is the views of Lake Geneva and its surroundings and stories associated with famous people who have visited the city at different times - from royalty, musicians and actors to famous prisoners.

Chateau Chillon fortress

A 13th century fortress that stands on a small island in Lake Geneva, but actually on the shore. Undoubtedly, Chillon Castle is the main architectural attraction of Montreux.
It is best to look at the fortress from the water.
The main function of the castle of the fortress in antiquity was the family estate of the Counts of Savoy in the Middle Ages. The second function is a prison where many famous prisoners were kept.
Location: Avenue de Chillon 21, Veitaud / Montreux, Switzerland, just a few minutes drive from the city center, I walked pretty quickly.

Jazz Festival in Montreux

The world's number one landmark event. Somewhere it is abruptly even the Olympic Games in sports. I was both lucky and unlucky at the same time - I got to Montreux on the eve of the festival, literally a week before the start and saw all the preparations and the beginning "movement", but the travel schedule did not allow me to stay.
The festival was called jazz in its origin - it was conceived as jazz. But after 1970, such luminaries of the rock scene as Queen, Frank Zappa, Deer Purple were its active participants.
Remember the famous Smoke on the water Deep Purple? The song was written in memory of the event when the casino burned down in Montreux in 1971 just during the performance of Frank Zappa. Thick white smoke drifted over Lake Geneva, which inspired Gillan to write this song.
Miles Davis, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald have performed at the festival at various times; after the 1970s, non-jazz artists such as Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, BB King, Oscar Peterson and others participated in it.
The festival can also be viewed free of charge from a boat or boat on Lake Geneva.
Location: Avenue Claude Nobs 5, Montreux, Switzerland, right on the shores of Lake Geneva.

City promenade in Montreux

The promenade is a 3.5 km long pedestrian road. from the Château de Chillon to Clarence. There are many flowers along the promenade, so the best time to walk is in spring. Each view from the boardwalk is a postcard, especially in calm weather, when the reflections of the castle and mountain peaks are especially beautiful.
Location: Along Lake Geneva, Montreux, Switzerland

Queen studio

In Montreux, the studio of the Queen group was located - Montreux Mountain, 7 albums of the group were recorded here. After Freddie's death, a sculpture of a musician was installed on the Montreux quay.
Location: Casino Barrièrede Montreux, RueduTheatre 9, Montreux, Switzerland

Gorge du Chauderon

In the old town is the beginning of the hiking trail along the gorge du Chauderon. The gorge is carved by the river La Baye-de-Montreux, which flows into Lake Geneva. The trail leading to and from Montreux is clearly marked.
Location: Old Town, Montreux, Switzerland

Lamp trail Les Pléiades

A non-trail path in Les Pléiades, which is called a lamppost for the fact that there are lanterns along it that illuminate the path.
The Lantern Trail is the main winter attraction in Montreux. I knew about her, so I included this attraction in the list.
It is better to walk along the lamppost path in winter, when the light of the lanterns is reflected in the snowdrifts, giving it a slight mysticism.
How to get there: To get on the trail you need to take the train from Montreux train station to Les Pléiades station. We leave and follow the signs along the trail illuminated by lanterns. Better to rent snowshoes. End your walk with a Swiss fondue tasting at Les Pléiades.
Address: Les Pléiades, Montreux, Switzerland

Lavaux Vineyard Terraces

Lavaux vineyards are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Tourists love them not for the lists, but for the panoramic views along the path and for the wine cellars where you can taste everything that is produced from local grapes.
Do you know why Swiss wine is not sold in your country? Because the Swiss drink almost everything they produce. So say the Swiss themselves, if anything. But at home, in Kiev, I did not see a lot of Swiss wine.
The Lavaux vineyards are 830 hectares between Lausanne and Montreux. Most use the Lavaux Express or Lavaux Panoramic special trains. But it is better to walk along the trails along the vineyards.
Location: Lavaux Vineyard Terraces, Puidu, Switzerland

Daffodil trail

This attraction is also in our bookmarks if we get to Montreux in the spring. There are many flower trails in the surrounding mountains. The tourist office of the city has maps with marked trails, or use any cartographic service - there are routes there too.

Walk on Lake Geneva

I left this activity for dessert. The views from Lake Geneva are not at all like what we see from the shore. It is ideal to combine both walks, water and walking. Be sure to take a boat trip to the Lake Geneva Conservation Area - there is a lot of wildlife, birds and aquatic life.
On Lake Geneva, you can rent any small boat - from a water catamaran or canoe to a boat. You can take a ticket for a pleasure boat, but the privacy of the moment is violated, you will have to ride with a crowd of tourists.
I was lucky - I admired Montreux on a private motor boat.

Conclusion

Montreux definitely has a lot to see and have fun for the solo tourist. If you are from Europe, especially Eastern Europe, I strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself in your free time.
This is my first such major post, I will be glad to hear your criticism and suggestions. Thanks for your attention!
Pleasant journey, friends.

P.S. A few words about travel insurance

You do not need insurance to enter Switzerland, but for your own confidence and wallet safety it is a must! Treatment in Switzerland is very expensive, besides, insurance saves you from having to look for a clinic or run for medicines, you never know what can happen. So take care of everything in advance and your journey will go smoothly.

Culture

Nutmegger?
So what does nutmeg have to do with Connecticut? Well, no one really knows. One theory (the most popular told to Connecticut children) is that swindlers from the state were notorious for selling counterfeit nutmegs made from wood to unsuspecting travelers and residents of seaside towns. Another more innocuous explanation is that traders from Connecticut were in fact selling real nutmeg, but customers unfamiliar with the unusually hard native form of the spice may have felt they had been tricked into buying a wooden counterfeit. The source of the legend traces back to the 1830’s newspaper column “The Sayings and Doings of Samuel Slick, of Slickville”, who claimed that Captain John Allspice, a popular trader who did business in Charleston, would cut his purchase of fifty barrels of nutmeg into two and fill the remaining space with wooden counterfeits, which looked so real that it was impossible to spot the difference unless you bit the nutmeg with your teeth.
Sikorsky Aircraft and United Technologies
Igor Sikorsky, a Kiev-born immigrant, founded Sikorsky in 1925 in Roosevelt, New York. In 1929, the company moved to Stratford, Connecticut and became part of United Technologies Corporation. Originally focused on multi-engine airplanes and amphibious aircraft (such as the Sikorsky Clipper), Sikorsky began developing the first practical helicopter, continuing work he had begun in Russia in 1909. In 1939, the first tethered and free-flight helicopter flights took place between 1939 and 1940; the V-S 300 design remains the basis for most helicopter designs today.
Cuisine
New Haven-style pizza (known as “Apizza”) is considered by culinary historians (such as Jeffrey Steingarten) to be among the best styles of Neapolitan-American pizza, along with New York City. While limited geographically until recently, restaurants specializing in the style have opened in the Washington DC, Oregon, Michigan, Texas and Tokyo.
The lobster roll originated in Milford in 1929 at a restaurant called Perry’s. The Connecticut-style lobster roll is simply warm lobster meat soaked in butter and served on a steamed bun. The more popular Maine style, consisting of cold lobster meat served with mayonnaise, celery, lemon juice, and lettuce is known locally as a lobster salad roll, and is more well-known outside of New England.
Connecticut is recognized by the Library of Congress as the birthplace of the modern hamburger. Louis Lunch in New Haven is known as the oldest continually operating hamburger restaurant, and is known for disliking the addition of any condiments to the burger, especially ketchup. Yale students who sneak in ketchup have been asked to leave in the past.
Charter Oak
The Charter Oak was a large white oak tree estimated to be around 600-700 years old at the time it fell in 1856. According to tradition, the state’s Royal Charter of 1662 was hidden in the hollow portion of the tree to prevent its confiscation by the English governor-general; this story became a symbol of American Independence. Captain Joseph Wadsworth (ancestor of Revolutionary general Elijah Wadsworth) was was credited as the person who hid the charter from Royal authorities, who did not like the amount of local autonomy the charter gave to colonists. After it fell during a violent storm, timber from the tree was made into several chairs, which are displayed in the Hartford Capitol Building. The Charter Oak adorns the state quarter and is still a symbol for the state as a whole today.
Sports
While Connecticut does not currently have a “big four” franchise, it has hosted multiple teams in all of the big four previously:
League Team Years Active
NHL Hartford Whalers 1972 - 1997
MLB Hartford Dark Blues 1876
NFL Hartford Blues 1926
NFL New York Giants 1973 – 1974 (played at Yale Bowl while Giants Stadium was under construction)
NBA Boston Celtics 1975 – 1995 (various home games)
The WNBA Connecticut Sun are the only current major professional sports team playing in the state, and are considered the most successful franchise in the WNBA to not win an overall championship.
The Pilot-Pen Tennis Tournament and the Travelers Championship both take place in Connecticut (in New Haven and Hartford, Respectively).
Lime Rock Park is a 1.53-mile natural-terrain course located in the Northwestern corner of Connecticut. It currently hosts events for the WeatherTech Sports Car Championship and has hosted events for NASCAR, Grand-Am, ALMS and the Pirelli World Challenge. The track also hosts a Historic Festival every Labor Day which features classic car shows and historic race cars taking part in exhibition races.
Connecticut’s NCAA Division I teams are:
  • UCONN
  • Quinnipiac University
  • Fairfield University
  • Central Connecticut State University
  • Sacred Heart University
  • University of Hartford
The UCONN Huskies are the only team to win men’s and women’s basketball championships in the same year, having done so twice (2004, 2014). The UCONN Women hold the NCAA record for the longest winning streak in college basketball at 90 games, having gone undefeated from 2008 until December 30, 2010 after a loss to Stanford. The Women have not missed the NCAA Final Four since 2008.

Thank you Osfrog - post DAC thoughts

I played a lot of Dota 1 when I was a teenager but never really played Dota 2. In fact, on my steam account, I have 54 minutes as my dota 2 play time. However, I always enjoyed watching Dota 2 tournament. I watched every single TI and big tournaments since Dota 2 came out. Besides the only time when I felt slightly disappointed during TI 4 when the deathball strat was too strong and every game ends pre-30 min, I would say that I enjoyed every tournament.
After the recent DAC, I am reminded again how amazing this game is. Even though IG swept OG in the final with a clean 3-0, the audiences was able to see three distinct battles:
Game 1, it was OSfrog vs OSfrog, with the Magnus Jugg combo fought head on against the Alchemist strat. IG persevered after being on the verge of letting OG sneak out a crucial win.
Game 2, it was a perfect display of out-draft and out-execution. We were given the pleasure of witnessing one of the most prominent upcoming position 4 star heavily punish OG's greed, completely choked out the enigma and caused a ripple effect that leads to the crumble of OG's game play.
Game 3, even in the era of post-patch 7.00, we were shown that one of the oldest strategy 4 protect 1 can still be used effectively when drafted against the correct team comp and executed correctly. The cherry on the top is that the star of the IG team, BurNing, who was famous for being the center piece of the 4 protect 1 strat for such a long time of his career, stepped aside during this game and happily give the spotlight to his young mid player by building a Solar Crest and Pipe on his position 1 Venge.
And these are definitely not the only strategies available. Remember the Invoker + Panda cheese strat that wings pulled on EG which led to one of the most epic comebacks? Remember when Empire drafted Troll+sniper against IG.V and had an avalanche early lead only to lose the grip of the game after a rosh fight? While the twitch chat was spamming "CIS LUL", I was wiping the sweat on my forehead thinking "if only Empire executed their strategy better and keep snowballing instead of team fight..."
I felt the sudden need to write this post because when I look around, I don't see any game that is close to the level of Dota 2. League of Legends, after years of failed balance, is still sitting at an average of 50% hero pick rate for their competitive play. After multiple attempts of forcing meta upon their players, the game is still pretty much stuck at where it was two years ago. Even though I haven't played a single league game for about 4 years, you could tune in a competitive league game and I can tell you what kind of hero that those professional team is going to draft (e.g. it's highly likely that they gonna draft a tank for their top lane). Whereas when I watch a high level Dota 2 game, every match starts with the best possible appetizer -- a battle of wits between the captains. I simply couldn't predict which hero might be picked and every moment therefore feels that much more exciting.
I am writing this post also in light of the increase in pack prices of Hearthstone combined with the outcry in their subreddit post recent expansion. Many Hearthstone customers felt cheated after receiving too many dupes after opening packs and Blizzard's response is simply "we looked into it and found nothing wrong." We see a company that was once seen as THE standard for the gaming industry is nowadays simply treating their customers as slot machine users. You may argue that Valve has the slot machine features implemented as well when it comes to skins, but keep in mind that there is a fundamental difference here -- you could play Dota 2 for 10,000 hours for free and never felt at a disadvantage for a moment whereas if you try to do that in Blizzard's casino stone, the game will try to remind you that you're not someone that they care about every single second.
In the end, I just want to say thank you Osfrog for making Dota and thank you Valve for creating this community. You're not perfect but that doesn't mean that I am not incredibly grateful for what you have done for us.
And I think I speak for everyone on this sub that Kiev Major couldn't come any sooner.

The Champions League Round of 16 fixtures decided

The group stage of the Champions League are now behind us and football fans need to wait until mid-February for the flagship European competition to resume. They will have their hands full with some of the most prominent domestic leagues, while anxiously waiting for the best clubs to return on the pitch. On Monday, the 16 remaining players learn the names of their opponents and it is only fair to say that they've got a couple of high profile games at the horizon. Players can already bet on these matches at 666 bet and place ante-post bets on the winner of the competition and competitive odds. Those who plan on betting on the favorites should act now because the odds will inevitably drop as the kickoff of elimination rounds draw near. Even if you plan on backing the underdogs it is worth going over the upcoming fixtures, with the first legs being scheduled for February 16. PSG will take on Chelsea in one of the most exciting match is of this stage and this time the French outfits promises to avenge former defeats. Benfica and Zenit play on the same day and the second leg is scheduled for March 9, with the Russian team being credited with a better chance at advancing the next stage. On Wednesday, Belgian fans will have the chance to see one of their teams competing in a decisive game for the first time in many years as Gent takes on Wolfsburg. In the great scheme of things, this match will be only exciting to the fans of those teams as the game of the day is the one between Real Madrid and AS Roma. The Spanish side is unlikely to bow out of the competition so early and they also have an impressive track record against Italian teams. February 23 is going to be the climax of European football as both games scheduled for this they promise to be breathtaking. Arsenal and Barcelona lock horns in London, while Juventus welcomes Bayern München in Torino. The hosts are the underdogs in both fixtures and they are also under tremendous pressure, since they have to win the first leg to stand a chance. Winning in Barcelona or Munich is almost a mission impossible and that's why the Italians and English need to travel on the back of a narrow win. The adrenaline rush subsides on February 24, because PSV Eindhoven and Atlético Madrid are scheduled to play on that match. The visitors have a stellar defensive and the Dutch side has proven its ability to defend when necessary, so this match is likely to result in a low-scoring affair. Manchester City travels to Kiev for a match against Dynamo and with low temperatures forecasted, it is very likely that match won't result in a goal scoring Festival either.

Action packed Sunday in European football

This weekend promises to be truly special for those who love football and enjoy betting on this sport. Some of the best teams in European football will go head to head in games of extraordinary magnitude, so it pays off to be in the heat of the action. In virtually every championship, some remarkable games are scheduled and Unibet offers great odds on all these events. The English Premier League is as interesting as it gets, with Leicester virtually running away with the trophy. Arsenal and Tottenham are closely behind but all three top teams are credited with the first chance this weekend. Meanwhile, Manchester United and their city rivals are fighting a heated battle for the fourth place, the last one to send the team into the Champions League. The Red Devils are trailing City by four points and close the gap if they defeat their rivals and Etihad Stadium. Both teams had to play in European competitions midweek, but Manchester City didn't try too hard against Dynamo Kiev. They were advance to the quarterfinals of the most important European competition at the end of the match that was probably one of the worst this season. Meanwhile, Manchester United took on Liverpool once again in Europa League and the top concern was to avoid further injuries were already depleted starting formation. All the games in Italy are going to be played on Sunday, which makes the state particularly important for the team still in contention for the title. Juventus is probably going to win, but in order to secure another trophy they need to defeat their local rivals from Torino. The reigning champions will be playing on the road, but this shouldn't make any difference given their stellar form. The hosts are counting on the fact that the visitors have played a very demanding match in the Champions League against Bayern Munich. Fiorentina squandered an excellent opportunity last weekend to win three points and will now try to recuperate them on the road at Frosinone. The hosts are struggling in the relegation area and shouldn't be much of a threat, but then again Verona is the worst teams in Serie A and they snatched a point at home. AC Milan and Lazio only have theoretical chances of securing a Europa League berth, but they will throw everything they've got at each other on Sunday evening in what is a game of last chance. Dortmund continues its utopian quest to win the Bundesliga after failing to defeat the reigning champions at home last weekend. They need nothing short of a miracle to prevail but regardless of what Bayern Munich does on Saturday, they will play offensive football on the road. Leverkusen won't have home pitch advantage either and they've got a difficult task of defeating Stuttgart who won twice in the last three games and scored a combined eight goals.

The Champions League resumes fast and furious

It's that time of the year again, when the best European teams resume their adventure in the Champions League. Now that the elimination round has started, we can witness the adrenaline rush of the last 16 and two weeks from now will know the names of those who make it to the quarterfinals. There are a couple of great games scheduled for this week and on the favorites are alive and kicking. Benfica takes on Zenit in the first game of the day, with the Portuguese outfit being credited with the first chance to win. Even though they are not leading the domestic championship, they played plenty of games recently, something that can't be said about their Russian opponents. On the same day, PSG welcomes Chelsea in a match that is regarded by many as the most exciting of this stage. The English team has the advantage in head to head games, as they qualified twice at the expense of the French. On Wednesday, Gent and Wolfsburg try to make the most of this rare chance, as the two teams have survived the group stage for the first time in many years. Punters expect a match with plenty of goals scored, as these two squads have great offensive capabilities but mediocre backlights. Another coveted matches the one between Real Madrid and AS Roma and not surprisingly, the Spanish team is credited with the first chance by Betsson. Football fans will have to wait for an entire week for the next eight teams to play, but it is definitely worth the wait since Arsenal welcomes Barcelona. London is going to turn into an inferno when the reigning champions come to town and the Gunners will need to put up quite a fight to survive. Failing to win in front of their fans is going to jeopardize their chances to advance to the quarterfinals, so Arsenal will need to take more chances upfront. On the same day, Juventus will take on Bayern Munich and the Germans appeared to have the work cut out for them. While they dominate the German championship, they will take on a team that made it to the finals last year and one that knows how to defend at home. This match is very likely to result in a low-scoring affair, with the visitors being slightly favorite but anything can happen on the pitch. The same goes in the match between PSV and Atletico Madrid, since the visitors are playing great football the national competition. Their chances of winning the trophy are very low, but they have a good shot and making a deep run in the Champions League. Manchester City also has its sights locked on this trophy and in order to survive this round they need to defeat Dynamo Kiev in the double legged it round. If they can claim all three points on the road, their mission in Manchester will be greatly simplified.

Manchester City vs Dynamo Kiev odds, preview and predictions

Tuesday 15/03/2016, 20:45, Champions League, Last 16 Manchester City vs Dynamo Kiev Preview Manchester City somehow managed to stay alive in all important competitions except for the FA cup in which they were eliminated by Chelsea. The top priority is to win the Champions League and they can consider themselves lucky to be playing against Dynamo Kiev. The English side took advantage of the first leg and scored three goals on the road, so qualification shouldn't be too difficult to secure. Manchester City vs Dynamo Kiev Odds At Bet365 Manchester City 1.60, Draw 4.00, Dynamo Kiev 6.00 Manchester City vs Dynamo Kiev Tips The Champions League has long been a dream of Manchester city fans and at least for the moment they have a good chance to advance to the bar the finals. They've played offensive football in Ukraine and this strategy paid off brilliantly, because they managed to score 3 goals. It is most unlikely to fail miserably in front of their own fans, against a team that no longer believes in his chances. Dynamo Kiev is simply focusing on the domestic championship, where they have a three-point lead over Shakhtar. The runners-up have one game in hand and there are very likely to win it, so the two teams are actually tied for the lead and anything can happen in the remaining rounds. Manchester City had an easy match over the weekend on the road at Norwich and they are credited with the first chance in the upcoming Derby of Manchester. The visitors struggle with numerous injuries and their best players are not going to featuring the starting formation, which makes them a short of victory. The odds of winning the Premier League are slim, as Manchester city travels the leader by six points, but they got a gaming hand which should help. Four players are still injured but they can return at any time and none of them are of critical importance for manager Pellegrini. Key Facts The last time the two teams met in a European competition, Dynamo Kiev advanced to the next stage. Manchester city won't take any chances that hope against the team willing to settle for one point. Manchester City vs Dynamo Kiev Prediction The fact that Manchester won so easily on the road give them plenty of breathing space ahead of this fixture, since they can settle for a draw. That's why bookies are offering odds of 1.60 on the home side to prevail, significantly more than what punters would expect. The hosts are not going to play defensive football and will try to present the fans with an agreeable show, so it's worth taking Bet365's offer. Bet: Manchester City @ 1.60 with Bet365

Smooth ride for favorites in 1st leg of Champions League matches

The elimination round of the Champions League brought together the best 16 teams in the competition and the first leg took place this week. The favorites were all successful, with no major upset, so the second leg promises to be spectacular. Interesting enough, many points were picked on the road, and just to withdrawals were recorded, while the hosts had to settle for narrow margin victories. Benfica and PSG fought hard in the opening match and both of them require a great degree of luck to win in front of their fans. The odds were not that good, with 5Dimes offering the best value and at the end of the day, those who credited the hosts with the first chance were successful. Both Chelsea and Zenit can make amends in the second leg and they only need a narrow margin victory to push the game into overtime or even advanced directly. The very next day Real Madrid played on the road and managed to score twice while their Italian opponents failed to defeat the goalkeeper. The first half was balance but took a turn for the worse in the remaining 45 minutes and the Italians now need a miracle in the second leg. Wolfsburg started the match on a positive note and it looked like the Germans were heading to an easy victory. It was not the case since the Belgians scored twice but in the end they had to accept defeat by the odd goal. Football fans had to wait for an entire week for the competition to resume but it was definitely worth waiting. Barcelona took on Arsenal on the road and after a scoreless first half they managed to defeat the opposing goalkeeper on two occasions while keeping a clean sheet. It should be just a formality for them to win in Spain, but Arsenal shouldn't be dismissed as defeated just yet. Bayern scored the first two goals in the match against Juventus and had crushing ball possession but they failed to hold on to this edge. The Italians returned to form and in the second half managed to level the score, settling for a well-deserved point in Turin. They have an insanely difficult mission to win in Germany, but they've got an excellent backline and a couple of gifted players that can score on the road. In the final two matches of this stage, Manchester City played offensive football in Kiev and defeated local team Dynamo. The hosts give them a run for their money and close the gap after allowing two goals, yet their efforts were all in vain because the visitors scored again. Atletico Madrid took no chances in the Netherlands and after PSV lost a key defender, the game slows to a crawl. It was the only scoreless draw for this round and the Spanish side is hoping for at least a narrow margin victory in the nation's capital.

Dynamo Kiev vs Manchester City odds, preview and predictions

Wednesday 24/02/2016, 20:45, Champions League, Last 16 Dynamo Kiev vs Manchester City Preview Manchester City has lost back-to-back games in the Premier League and is on the verge of completely losing contact with the podium. As their chances of winning the domestic championship have all but vanish, they need to focus on the last available trophy. Winning the Champions League is going to be extremely difficult, but at least they have a good chance against Dynamo Kiev. Dynamo Kiev vs Manchester City Odds At Paddy Power Dynamo Kiev 3.20, Draw 3.80, Manchester City 2.20 Dynamo Kiev vs Manchester City Tips Dynamo Kiev has the disadvantage of going through a season break, so players need to get busy in friendly games. This is hardly the same as playing competitive matches, but at least they make the most of these opportunities and played against top teams. Most of the games were played on the road, so the Ukrainians are happy to return home and face the English giants in front of their fans. On the bright side, the fact that they have to play competitive games miss that keep players could be rested and all the ones essential for Dynamo Kiev are fit to play. Ideally, they should go for all three points since they have home pitch advantage, but this is not going to be the strategy. Instead, they will play it safe and hope that Manchester City commits a mistake as it did in early February. English outfit is probably concerned by the fact that they've allowed plenty of goals at home, with Tottenham and Leicester scoring a combined five. Their exercise caution on the road and hope that once they return home, they will manage to score a bucket full of goals. Manchester City has a solid backline and a great midfield, but their offensive is overly reliant on Aguero. The Ukrainians are guaranteed to assign at least two players to guard him at all times, which means that his impact will be limited. Even so, he remains a constant threat to any defensive and he doesn't need too many opportunities to score. Key Facts Dynamo Kiev has all its players fit to play as the team is still in season break. Manchester City has lost back-to-back games and place a difficult match against Chelsea in the FA cup ahead of this class. Dynamo Kiev vs Manchester City Prediction Manchester City is clearly the better side and favorite to advance the next stage, but winning this match on the road is an entirely different thing. They will need their best players fit to play and also worry about the low temperatures in Kiev that could affect their game. As far as punters are concerned, it is wiser to bet on the home side to win or draw at odds of 1.65 currently offered by William Hill. Bet: Dynamo Kiev or Draw @ 1.65 with Paddy Power

Washington Post Trump Russia history

Opinions A history of Donald Trump’s business dealings in Russia By David Ignatius Opinion writer November 2
President Trump takes questions from reporters before boarding Marine One (Drew AngereGetty Images)
MOSCOW — An ice-blue 14-story office tower called Ducat Place III is the building that President Trump might have constructed here, with help from a business friend named Howard Lorber who came with him to scout the market in 1996. But like so many other Trump adventures in Russia, this one proved a tantalizing but futile dead end.
Trump is angrily dismissive when questions are raised about his Russian contacts. He calls the investigation by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III a “witch hunt” and media reports about his Russia connections “fake news” and “fabrication.” He tweeted in January, shortly before his inauguration: “I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA — NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!”
As the Mueller investigation accelerated this week with the indictment of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and the plea deal reached with former campaign foreign-policy aide George Papadopoulos, the context of the probe becomes newly important. How did Trump accumulate his network of Russian business contacts in the years before the 2016 campaign? What’s the prehistory of Trump and Russia?
Read These Comments
The best conversations on The Washington Post
The Mueller investigation is still in its opening round, and it’s far too early to make any judgments about Trump’s own actions. A member of Trump’s inner circle told me that he advised the president recently, “This is the most innocent you’ve ever been of any allegation.” But to reach a judgment, you first must understand the history of Trump’s fascination, bordering on obsession, with Russian business deals.
The simple truth is that Trump has been hungry for Russia projects for more than three decades. He has repeatedly touted plans for a Moscow mega-development and has courted a steady stream of investors from the former Soviet Union for ventures in New York, South Florida and other locations. Trump has enjoyed playing the “big guy” in Moscow. As he bragged to a New York real-estate publication after a November 2013 dinner with prominent business leaders: “The Russian market is attracted to me.”
Trump’s Russia connections helped sow the seeds of Mueller’s investigation. The best example is the now-famous June 9, 2016, meeting at Trump Tower organized by Donald Trump Jr. with Russians who had links with the Kremlin. Mueller is investigating whether that meeting was part of a conspiracy to influence the 2016 election. But any potential criminal issues aside, the gathering embodied the Trump family’s 30-year involvement with wealthy tycoons from the former Soviet Union.
What follows is an attempt to explain Trump’s encounter with Russia as a narrative. Most of the details have surfaced before, but it has been hard to see the story whole, as a business saga. With Russia, as with so many other aspects of Trump’s business and political life, he has been more pitchman than builder. What’s clear, reviewing the facts, is that Trump’s claim he had “nothing to do with Russia” over the years is nonsense. 3:06 Inside the plan to develop a Trump Tower in Moscow
The Washington Post's Carol Leonnig and Tom Hamburger explain the Trump Organization's efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. (Jenny Starrs, Meg Kelly/The Washington Post)
Trump’s business interest in Russia began in 1986. The flashy young tycoon met Soviet Ambassador Yuri Dubinin at a luncheon and, as he recounted in his 1987 book, “The Art of the Deal,” the two began “talking about building a large luxury hotel across the street from the Kremlin.”
With Dubinin’s encouragement, Trump flew to Moscow in July 1987 with his Czech-born first wife, Ivana, to check out potential sites. Trump wrote in his book: “It was an extraordinary experience. . . . We stayed in Lenin’s suite at the National Hotel, and I was impressed with the ambition of the Soviet officials to make a deal.”
But Trump was preoccupied with other business projects in the late 1980s, including buying an airline and the Plaza Hotel (which he lost after bankruptcies in 1991 and 1992, respectively), and the Russia hotel deal stalled.
Trump explored the Russian market again in 1996, with help from his friend Lorber, who is chief executive of Vector Group, a holding company that back then owned a Russian cigarette company and now owns Douglas Elliman Realty, one of the leading brokerage firms for super-rich Russians seeking property in the United States.
Lorber is a fascinating, little-noted member of Trump’s inner circle. Trump described him last year as one of his two closest friends; they’ve helped each other’s children in business, and Lorber introduced Trump to David Friedman, who is now U.S. ambassador to Israel; Friedman’s former partner, Marc Kasowitz, became Trump’s lawyer. Lorber even made a cameo appearance in a 2005 episode of “The Apprentice.”
The Trump-Lorber foray in Moscow began with Lorber’s business partner (and close Trump friend) Bennett LeBow, who had acquired the Liggett tobacco company in 1986. One subsidiary, called Liggett-Ducat, marketed the company’s cigarettes in Russia. And Liggett-Ducat had a 98-year lease on a prime development site in central Moscow.
With his usual panache, Trump announced plans for a $250 million investment that would include a “Trump International” complex on the Liggett-Ducat site at a November 1996 news conference in Moscow. “We have an understanding we will be doing it,” he said.
Trump bragged about his plans in January 1997, when he and Lorber met visiting Russian politician Aleksandr Lebed in New York. A 1997 New Yorker profile of Trump captured their exchange and showed the breadth of Trump’s hopes for Moscow investment and business connections.
“We are actually looking at something in Moscow right now, and it would be skyscrapers and hotels, not casinos. Only quality stuff. . . . And we’re working with the local government, the mayor of Moscow, and the mayor’s people. So far, they’ve been very responsive. . . . I always go into the center.”
The Moscow mayor Trump cultivated was Yuri Luzhkov. John Beyrle, then U.S. ambassador to Russia, offered this blunt summary of Luzhkov’s approach in a 2010 cable to Washington: “Corruption in Moscow remains pervasive with Mayor Luzhkov at the top of the pyramid. Luzhkov oversees a system in which it appears that almost everyone at every level is involved in some form of corruption or criminal behavior.” Beyrle’s cable was published by WikiLeaks.
Whatever inside track Trump thought he had with Luzhkov in 1996, the deal petered out. Trump’s business troubles were mounting at home, and financing may not have been available. Handsome towers were built at sites called Ducat Place II and III, but not by Trump.

The Russian moneymaker for Trump in the 2000s turned out, instead, to be investment in U.S. properties bearing his name. Russians were eager to move their capital into fancy condo apartments in New York and Florida. Here, again, his friend Lorber was well connected.
Lorber’s real-estate firm Douglas Elliman, hoping to profit from the Russian market, hired a string of Russian-speaking agents who could help rich clients find high-end properties.
“If you didn’t target the Russian billionaires, then you shouldn’t be in the business,” said Dolly Lenz, a former Douglas Elliman broker, in a 2008 article in the New York Observer. Lenz told USA Today last year that she had sold about 65 apartments in Manhattan’s Trump World Tower to Russian buyers. “They all wanted to meet Donald,” she said.
One magnet for Russian money was a private resort called Fisher Island in Biscayne Bay, just off Miami. Lorber has been a director of the Oceanside at Fisher Island Condominium Association since 2000 and is currently a director of the Fisher Island Club.
Among Fisher Island’s many Soviet-born property owners have been Aras Agalarov, a Russian-Azerbaijani magnate who sponsored Trump’s Miss Universe 2013 pageant and whose pop-singer son Emin organized the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower; and Felix Sater, a Russian-born former adviser to Trump who worked with the Bayrock Group that helped develop the Trump SoHo project in New York.
(Lorber declined to comment through Vector’s public-affairs consultant, Emily Claffey of Sard Verbinnen & Co.)
Trump’s business deals in South Florida illustrated his blend of panache and caution, his hunger for Russian cash and his ability to skirt disaster. He sold his name to condo projects in an area called Sunny Isles Beach, helped pump up the market there and walked away unscathed when it crashed.
“The city has earned the nickname ‘Little Russia’ for its high percentage of Russian-speaking residents,” notes the Douglas Elliman website, pitching high-rises there to prospective buyers. The Miami Herald reported that according to U.S. Census data, nine percent of Sunny Isles Beach households have Russian origins, the largest percentage of Russians in Miami-Dade County.
Sunny Isles is a case study in how Trump does business. It was once a decidedly un-chic beachfront north of Miami, “a place where your uncle who lives on Social Security would go on vacation,” says Peter Zalewski, a Florida real-estate consultant. But after it incorporated as a separate jurisdiction within Miami-Dade County, with business-friendly local managers, it became a magnet for investment — and was rebranded as “Florida’s Riviera.”
Trump’s name graces a string of sleek buildings along this strip of coast. First was the Trump International Beach Resort, a complex completed in 2004. Then came Trump Palace in 2006; Trump Towers I, II and III, built in 2007, 2008 and 2009; and Trump Royale in 2008. But Trump’s developer friends plunged into Sunny Isles at the wrong time. According to a 2010 article at SouthFloridaCondos.blogspot.com, unit prices at the three Trump Towers buildings dropped nearly 40 percent from the 2005 pre sales period. As the market crashed, the construction loan for Trump Towers had to be restructured. Trump Hollywood, another glitzy project further north, was driven into foreclosure in 2010.
Trump deftly distanced himself from the developers’ troubles, telling the Sun-Sentinel that he questioned their “timing.” But the condo market gradually improved, thanks in part to Russian buyers. A Reuters investigation found that 63 people with Russian addresses or passports have purchased $98.4 million of property in Trump-branded condos in South Florida.
Trump also had a personal infusion of Russian cash in the liquidity-starved 2008 market. That year he sold for a handsome $95 million a Palm Beach waterfront mansion he bought at auction in 2004 for just $41.35 million — more than doubling his money at a time when much of the South Florida market was underwater. The buyer was Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev.
Dezer Development, the real-estate company that helped attach Trump’s name to six projects in Sunny Isles Beach, saw Trump’s presidential campaign as a promotion opportunity. “It’s a free press release,” Gil Dezer told Bloomberg News in August 2016.
Donald Trump Jr. arrives at Trump Tower in New York City. (Stephanie Keith/Reuters)
Helping build the Trump-Russia pipeline in the fragile 2008 market was Donald Trump Jr. He was a keynote speaker at the June 2008 Russian Real Estate Summit in Moscow, where he touted the Trump Organization’s plans to build condos and hotels in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi. At a New York real-estate conference in September 2008, Trump Jr. was frank about the tide of Russian money supporting the family business.
“In terms of high-end product influx into the U.S., Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. . . . We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia,” said the young Trump, according to a Sept. 15, 2008, article about the conference. He said he had made a half-dozen trips to Russia during the previous 18 months.
A project that had significant financing from former Soviet Union investors was Trump SoHo, a 46-story condo-hotel project in Lower Manhattan that opened in September 2007. One development partner was the Sapir Organization, founded by Tamir Sapir from Georgia. Another partner was Bayrock, founded by Tevfik Arif, a Kazakh-born businessman who brought in Sater. As has been widely reported, Sater went to prison in 1993 after stabbing a man, and later became an FBI informant.
For the elder Trump, these ex-Soviet investors were important assets for the future. He said in a deposition in a Trump SoHo lawsuit: “Bayrock knew the people, knew the investors. . . . And this was going to be Trump International Hotel and Tower Moscow, Kiev, Istanbul, etc., Poland, Warsaw.”
Trump Jr. continued traveling to Russia and Eastern Europe, prospecting for business. He was interviewed in May 2012 before giving a speech to a real-estate conference in Riga, Latvia. His comments, captured on YouTube, explain why the Trump Organization saw the former Eastern Bloc as crucial: “It’s a part of the world that now you’re starting to see some amazing architecture, some incredible real estate, you’re seeing a real big boom in wealth. . . . We have something that’s very relevant in that sector.”

The apex of Trump’s personal fascination with Russia may have been 2013, when he brought the Miss Universe pageant to Moscow and talked, yet again, of building a “Trump Tower” there. His business partner in the pageant was Aras Agalarov, president of Crocus Group, a shopping-mall developer. Forbes magazine notes that he has been called “the Trump of Russia” because of his glitzy personal marketing.
Trump and Agalarov formed an ebullient partnership over a dinner in Las Vegas on June 15, 2013, captured on the Internet. As Trump began hyping the pageant, he even tried to draw in Russia’s president himself, tweeting on June 18, 2013: “Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow — if so, will he become my new best friend?”
The Miss Universe red carpet was rolled out Nov. 9, 2013. Emin Agalarov sang a song, and Miss Venezuela was crowned the winner. A story published that day by RT touted Trump’s latest business plans for Russia, quoting him: “I have plans for the establishment of business in Russia. Now, I am in talks with several Russian companies to establish this skyscraper.” Aras Agalarov was quoted saying he was participating in talks to be Trump’s partner in the project.
Agalarov hosted a dinner for Trump at the Moscow branch of Nobu, which he owned. The co-host was Herman Gref, the chief executive of Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, and a close adviser of President Vladimir Putin. An ebullient Trump saluted Agalarov in a Nov. 11 tweet: “I had a great weekend with you and your family. You have done a FANTASTIC job. TRUMP TOWER-MOSCOW is next.”
The Trump-Agalarov contacts continued. Trump’s daughter Ivanka visited Moscow in February 2014 and toured Crocus City Hall. Emin Agalarov performed at a golf tournament the next month at the Trump National Doral, near the family property at Fisher Island. Like so many seemingly imminent Trump-Moscow deals over the years, the skyscraper plan stalled. 4:17 What we know about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting

And then, finally, came an event that Mueller is said to have examined carefully — the meeting in June 2016 where Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya met with Trump’s inner circle. It helps to recall the long history of Trump’s business dealings with Russia when you read this June 3, 2016, email to Trump Jr. from Rob Goldstone, the publicist for Emin Agalarov:
“Emin just called me to contact you with something very interesting. The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father. This is obviously very high-level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Trump — helped along by Aras and Emin.”
To which Trump Jr. answered: “I love it.” The meeting took place on June 9 with, among others, Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Manafort and Veselnitskaya, a lawyer with links to the Kremlin. Veselnitskaya says her real goal was to lobby the Trump team to oppose the Magnitsky Act, which she described in a May 31, 2016, memo as “the beginning of a new round of the Cold War,” echoing Putin’s line.
As the new president was taking office, the Trump brand sparkled brighter than ever for Russians. The Miami Herald reported on Jan. 30 that in November 2016, Russians topped the list of foreigners looking for homes in the Miami area.
Oren Alexander, one of the top brokers at Douglas Elliman, explained the post-election trend to the Herald: “There’s no doubt that Russian buyers think America is a good place to be again.” Among the places that attracted Russian purchasers, he said, were Sunny Isles Beach and Fisher Island.
Mueller’s investigation might tell us whether any of these Trump-Russian business connections improperly melded into the 2016 campaign. But at the core of Trump’s interaction with his Russian friends is an insight they have shared ever since Soviet days: Politics may be transitory, but real estate is forever.
