I used to be a Financial Advisor for a very brief period almost 10 years ago for Peter Schiff. At the time I was in my early 20s and liked a lot of what he said. He frustrates me a lot more now and fails to adapt accordingly. Anyhow, I now run junkiebonds.com. Here’s some quick advice for beginners and even further on up I’m sure.
I've seen an unbelievable amount of these advertisements in the last few weeks. I just came across a comment in this room about just beginning and who to trust for paid services.
This may seem counterintuitive but if you're just beginning in the stock market DO NOT buy anything for education or trading. All the material you need is available for free online. Investopedia and YouTube have everything.
If you're just beginning you need to educate yourself and make small purchases. Education is the easiest part of trading in the stock market. The hard part is educating yourself about yourself. I've seen a few beginners that trade frequently and have done very well - in all likelihood they'll eventually lose all of their gains(+95% chance at bare minimum).
Stay away from paid services that claim they can help you trade. 99% are bullshit. Only experienced individuals should use these services because those individuals most likely know the few real people or firms that actually provide value. Experienced traders use these services for insight, education, and to help their process. Beginners have other obstacles to deal with first before these would properly benefit them.
Fuck Tim Sykes, those raging bull fucks, and others. They're full of shit. They are just a salesman using flashy marketing. It doesn't mean they haven't ever done well themselves - I think Tim Sykes actually did - but they realize selling hope, making millions, along with a little education is not just more profitable but it also eliminates risk.
In my opinion, I believe I could start a very “successful” subscription service. It’s aggravating seeing these guys because fooling beginners is almost like shooting fish in a barrel. But I’m not going to start a business where 95% of profits are based off of fooling others with slick marketing.
If anybody comes across a service you may be interested in but aren’t sure of its validity, feel free to send it to me and I’ll provide my two cents.
I’m going to explain trading by summarizing how I go about it. I’m not a day trader - I’m not making multiple trades a day and I recommend you do not do that either unless you want to lose money.
Before joining Euro Pacific Capital I would make a few trades a day. 50% of my portfolio was for long term investments 1+ years and the other for my speculation. I was fortunate enough to begin these investments at end of 2008 and early 2009. The long term side would do well and my speculations did alright too. The problem was I had big goals and desires for more wealth even though I had almost doubled the 12500 in less than a year. This led me to abandon stock speculating/trading because gains were too small and slow. However, stock options provided the leverage needed and I thought I had a trading process that would work.
Btw... “back in those days” I was paying 5.99 to buy and then 5.99 again to sell every trade! In 2010 my commissions were well above 2gs.
Reflecting on it now my process was abysmal and I’m surprised I was able to hold up for time I did. I was making reckless trades but one in particular really boosted my confidence. I bought far OTM calls on VXX(volatility) that expired in a few days. It was only a 100 dollars or so.
The market got slaughtered the next day. My calls were up over 4000%. I was up 4,950 dollars at 1205pm and then 4,150 a few minutes later. I believe I exited with a return of just over 4,300% which was a close figure to the actual dollars I made.
Here’s one of the most important points I’ll make: a PROFITABLE trade does not make it a GOOD trade by any means. That’s still one of the largest returns I’ve ever had and certainly the quickest but it was foolish.
It’s like going up to the roulette table and placing money on any number. The outcome of the spin does not change the fact this is a bad decision. Do not fool yourself by thinking your gains are all good decisions or investments. The only way you can have a good bet playing roulette is if you have knowledge or insight which puts the odds in your favor. And the only way you can do that is through some illegal con I believe. However, the market is not roulette. It can be. It can be worse if you make it that way.
Moving on... A few months after the big gain I had steadily lost money and I was getting a bit frustrated ——-
understanding how your emotions impact your thought processes and decision making is fundamental. There’s no manual for this part because every tradeperson is different. Happiness can and will influence your decisions. For some people it may cause them to be less disciplined or open to taking a risk and for others it will do the opposite. Traders create a process to eliminate the effects emotions can have - a simple example is to set a stop loss on a trade so you aren’t trying to guess when or if should prevent further losses or risk it. It’s important for beginners to do this. Do not enter trades where the losses cause worry and stress and you have no idea whether or not to sell. I don’t always have pre determined actions when I trade these days but I’ve also been doing this for over a decade and there are trades where it’s not as important or just not a good strategy. Again, if you’re a beginner please do not do this.
Back to my frustration... I entered an abnormally large call option order attempting to make up some losses - another stupid and beginner mistake. Unfortunately, the next day my parents needed help moving to Florida from Iowa. I had a 5g option that expired in 4 days and I wasn’t at my computer so I put in an order to (stop)sell if it so happens to fall quite a bit. This stock was amazon and it just so happens a negative headline came out right before opening bell. I had no idea bc I was still sleeping and dealing with moving.
The option price was around 5.20 and I had 10. My stop was at 4.
At 1030am we were going out for lunch and I went to check my position.
I was down 4,700 dollars.... because I put a LIMIT at 3.85.
You see, On this trade I went through ETRADE for whatever reason and I knew these sleezy guys sell their order flow - oh, btw Robinhood also sells their stock option orders but it’s really only important for a very small% of ppl - basically ETRADE profits from selling orders to other brokers who then complete your trade. So if these guys can see a price quickly drop and pop back up they’ll execute your order at worst price and then sell it for a profit a second later. Free money.
I was trying to limit any excessive scalping by putting a limit but amazon dropped quickly so E*TRADE of course did not get my order executed. If they were an honest and customer first company the order would’ve been executed and I wouldn’t have lost thousands of dollars. However, ultimately it is my fault and once again a stupid trade.
Trading is different from investing. Being an advisor certainly doesn’t make you a good trader. Advisors are typically there to plan long term investments and get to know their client so they’re able to adjust the risk in their portfolio accordingly.
A year or so after amazon I was working for Peter Schiff. He had really exploded in popularity because his predictions about the housing bubble all came to fruition. As an advisor you can’t trade. I was only there for a year because my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and I left to be with her. I had to save funds and for a few years after didn't trade either.
These days I'm back trading but its much different. I enjoy macro research and writing so i use this to my advantage. In 2020, I made around 40 trades total. Some of these are still open. Most of my trades are options and last a few weeks to months but two open positions don't expire until Jan 2022. Last year I made a return of 135%. I made a few huge mistakes and one out of laziness. Earlier in the year I was up 200%. I believe my process is solid but also needs improvement.
I try to limit my trades and find areas I'm most confident in. I also recommend you do not make hasty decisions. MISSING TRADES can be hard but it's a much better result. 135% really isn't that great of a gain considering how well the market did and the style of my trading. I missed many trades I was really confident in and thought were easy bc I have a strategy that may require 100% of my proceeds into Few positions. It sucks knowing I should've and could've easily had a 400/500% year if I chose to be aggressive. But I stick to my game plan because I'm confident later this year or next my returns will be multiple 1000s of percent. Maybe I'm wrong. We will see. I do best when Im unbelievably confident in an outcome and yet able to remain patient. I find I can do better or much worse if I change these.
My friend that's a girl did better than me because she bought her first and only stock this year which was Tesla. Does it suck underperforming your beginner girl friend having been in this trade for 10 years?

Hello my fellow poor people! Welcome to this week's “~~Malikas~~ Kards Konfidential," inside production details/family notes from KUWTK’s last episode, “Sister, Sister and a Babymoon”
Needing 2 weeks of multiple health screens after watching this Malika-filled episode, producers surprised us with a trip to Morongo where we could pretend that we really care about the Malikas just for a brief moment in time. They gambled, put their own health at risk, discussed the horrors of giving birth to a person that’s about to pop, and honestly, nothing more. I realize that for most people, this episode is something so far out of reach from the normal Kardashian realm, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded why this show is coming to an end. #ThisIsTorture
Our A-plot is Khloe taking Malika on a babymoon, something that is apparently a very real thing, and our B-plot was Corey v. Kendall. Let’s dive in before we're all haunted by Robert Kardashian's hologram!
Cold Open/Scene 1: Kourtney and Kim discuss Kendall/Kylie fight

Producers say Kourtney and Kendall spend the most time poolside at Kris' Palm Springs House.
When the family films in the pool, producers usually watch from Kris' outdoor grill and bar area.
Producers were still reeling from Kendall and Kylie's fight. They assumed the drag show ended their Palm Springs filming, but then things got turned upside down.

Scene 2: Kim and Khloe talk about the fight while Kourtney sits in the corner and says nothing

Producers spent a bit of time with Kim and Kendall after the fight to better understand what went down.
The girls are in one of Kris' guest rooms... The 14,500 square foot home has 7 bedrooms in total.
Kim and Kourtney's fight was still very fresh for producers even though it happened a few months ago. Producers say intense sister fights of that magnitude don't happen very often.
Because none of the sisters were actually present for Kendall and Kylie's fight, they were hesitant to take sides. They hoped Kylie and Kendall could work things out themselves.

Scene 3: Kim, Khloe and Scott talk about the fight + Malika's babymoon

Producers make sure every family member involved in an argument has their side captured on camera. "It's important we don't come off like the show is presenting only one person's perspective and emotions."
Although her sisters reached out, it was Kris that Kylie was in touch with the most after the fight.
Before giving birth to True, Khloe took a sister "baby moon" with Kim and Kourtney to Tokyo.
After Kim and Kanye announced in 2013 that they were expecting for the first time, they escaped to Paris for a "little baby moon"
Malika has said she craved cereal throughout her whole pregnancy.
Malika has said she'd love to have twins one day, just not in her first pregnancy.
There were a lot of mixed feelings when Scott started coughing. Most producers didn't know what to think or take seriously yet.
The crew also tried holding their breath and counting to ten.
Producers thought Kourtney was the family member who might get bored during lockdown. She loves to travel, so it would be hard for her to suddenly be grounded.
Producers thought Kim would love the downtime... she's so busy, it would be nice for her to get a breather from all of her obligations.

This scene was filmed on March 30th, 2020, three weeks after Kendall/Kylie's fight and Malika's babymoon. I can tell because Kim is wearing the same shirt/hairstyle that she wore while taping virtual interviews for The Tonight Show and The View, the latter of which which aired the next day. Poor Malika... she's just trying to spend some time with her newborn baby, but this is the price you pay for taking over Kourtney's spot on the show! This must also mean that they were NOT quarantining separately here... as this was just two weeks after the L.A. shutdown. A professional camera crew clearly shot this as well, so let's hope they all got tested before filming!

Scenes 4/5: Malika sits through labor horror stories during her baby moon lunch + en route to Malika's favorite spot in the world, Morongo

Malika's babymoon was the same week (erhm, the day after) that Khloe had been in Palm Springs with her family.
The girls wanted a cute outdoorsy restaurant that was close to Morongo.
In August 2020, Khadijah announced she was pregnant with her third baby. She gave birth to her son Christian in 2010 and daughter Celine in 2014.
It made Malika nervous to hear all the birth stories over lunch.
The girls got recognized at lunch, but producers say people were respectful.
Palm Springs is frequented by L.A. residents. Producers say everyone kind of gets it and isn't so out of control the second they see a celebrity and cameras around them.
A long bathroom break at the restaurant held up the girls. Producers say it started with Malika, then everyone was in there with her, so it took her forever to get on the road.
It was only a 20-minute drive from lunch to Morongo.
Producers say Malika got pretty carsick whenever she wasn't driving.
Production provides a basket of snacks when filming on long drives.
All the sisters have given pregnant members of production great advice about labor and delivery.

Scene 6: Kylie breaks away from STASSSIE BABBBYYY to fulfill her contractual obligations by participating in a scene w/Kris at her office

Both Kris and Kylie have the same exact desk size in their offices.
Because Kris is seen by many as a "boss bitch mega-mogul," it's easy to forget she's parented 6 kids. Producers are always in awe when that side of her comes out.
Kylie and Kendall have bickered about "typical sister stuff" over the years, like borrowing each other's clothes without saying anything.
Some of producers' favorite memories of filming Kylie and Kendall as little girls were during family trips... most notably the Dominican Republic, Greece and Bora Bora.
Producers say those trips were a lot of fun, and the girls would film music videos with the whole family.

Scene 7: Khloe, Khadijah and the other girl day players celebrate Malika in their Morongo suites

The girls had five suites at Morongo.
Champagne and different juices were served at the "Momosa" bar.
Khloe had never been to Morongo... it was a place Malika usually liked going to by herself.
Besides hitting the casino, Malika wanted to lie by the pool in a cabana, go in the hot tub and do some shopping at the nearby outlets.
Producers found it funny that Khloe went through drama over not packing proper clothes. "We thought it was funny and just rolled with it... they would've had fun if they all only brought sweats."

Scene 8: A future boring plot is SAVED by Corey reading Kendall for the "asshole" that she really is

Corey just happened to have a mirror ball because of a prank that was being pulled on an associate producer.
Corey and Kris are big Dancing With The Stars fans. And, Rob and Kim's time on the show are some of the family's favorite memories.
This was Kris and Corey's first time meeting Artem, but Kris and Cheryl Burke already went way back.
Cheryl was Rob's partner on Dancing With The Stars.
The man standing against the wall is Kris' security guard.
Corey and Kris were learning the Argentine tango because they wanted to enter a small dance competition.
Producers say Kourtney would also be a great dance partner for Corey. (okay? 😅Maybe not after he whoops Penelope's ass!)
While Corey was on the phone with Kendall, Cheryl and Artem gave Kris a few pointers.
Kris knew Corey was on with Kendall, but she had no idea things got so heated until after the call.
Kris and Corey had a long dance session with Cheryl and Artem.
Producers say Kris and Corey's dancing was actually pretty good, and their choreography was complex.
Producers say maybe the footage of Kris and Corey's dancing will pop up in some future never-before-seen footage show.

Scenes 9/10: Malika celebrates International Women's Day by telling the world she don't give a flying FUCK about her baby daddy's business + Khloe, Malika and their day players risk their health by playing in the casino amid a pandemic

The family usually asks each other for their opinions before posting things on social media.
Producers have joked that the girls should read their DMs on camera - but it's never happened.
Many photos on the family's social media feeds are taken by the crew members. Audio supervisor Erin - aka Paxy - is their favorite "camera phone" photographer.
Sometimes producers will set the lighting and the DP suggests the framing... helping with the family's social media pics becomes a fun little production.
Throughout the babymoon, Khloe never took Malika's phone away... or made her take social media breaks.
Malika said she didn't morning sickness at all during pregnancy.
Malika has said, "I'm able to be a Malika because I have a Khloe.... we're a duo that's really tough to come by."
Producers say the girls got recognized in the casino, and there was a point where a small crowd was gathered behind their table filming them.

Scene 11: This trip seems to never end as Khloe, Malika and their day players head to dinner

Malika thought she was having contractions for about half an hour before dinner, but producers say nothing super alarming.
Producers were really worried Malika would actually go into labor.
Despite hearing about Morongo for years from Malika, Khloe had no idea what to expect.
Producers say this was one of the longest dinners ever filmed. It lasted for hours - the girls hung out and were chatting forever.
After dinner, Malika wanted everyone to play games back in the room, but Khloe and a producer were trying to figure out how to get out of it. It was really late and Malika needed to rest, even though Malika didn't feel like it.

Scene 12: This episode still drags on as Malika gives her baby a real kick by drinking caffeine

Malika had been in pain on and off since waking up.
There was talk about Malika pranking the girls by pretending her pain was getting worse, but that wasn't until later in the day when it was clear she was feeling fine.
One of the most heartwarming moments for producers was when Malika shared a sonogram of the baby with them. It was the first time any of them saw her future son.
Khloe and Malika did steal some private moments together early in the morning and at the end of filming.
Khloe was first to leave because she had work obligations back home. The other girls took their time and hit up some shops on the way out.

Scene 13: Corey and Kris talk about the phone call w/Kendall

When Kris moved into this house, production limited the amount of crew allowed inside to just a couple. That's significantly fewer than any of the girls' homes.
Kris had spoken off-camera to producers about being in the middle of Corey and Kendall. They really felt for Kris as she struggled with her dilemma.
Kendall didn't want to see Corey or film with him. Producers say she was still super upset.

Scene 14: Khloe, masked up, is graced by a visit from Kris... who is shook by the new mask culture

Khloe's assistant picked up the masks at a hardware store.
When filming that day, production also wore masks per Khloe's request. Producers say masks weren't yet mandated.
Some crew members were worried about Khloe's runny nose, while others were unsure what to think. The severity of it all was still not as clear as it is now.
At this point, producers and the family were all freaking out and unsure what was going on. It was the next week when they stopped filming and went into lockdown.

Scene 15: Kendall shoots her Architectural Digest cover

There were 15-20 people from the Architectural Digest team at the shoot, and just two people from the series production team.
According to producers, the most impressive part of Kendall's house is her art room. It has curtains that are actually a canvas you can paint on.
Sometimes the family copies each other's interior design ideas, but producers say they have individual vibes and like keeping certain things unique to their individual homes.
Producers were surprised that Kendall and Kylie still weren't speaking. Khloe and Kendall discussed the drama with Kylie for about 30 minutes, then Khloe "really started coming apart," say producers.

Make a shit-ton of money promoting online casinos

So, for those of you who are familiar with REALLY black hat affiliate marketing this wouldn't be a huge surprise, but still.
Basically, i think i found the ultimate way to promote online casinos as an affiliate and make huge amounts of money with it, and basically this is by turning lots of people into temporary (or not so temporary) gambling addicts.
Is this immoral? I'm a diagnosed sociopath and i couldn't care less, we're all adults and we're all responsible for our decisions. Is this illegal? No.
Basically, let's first analyze what a gambling addict is and HOW HE THINKS:
The key factor that distinguishes a gambling addict from an enthusiast is that the addict genuinely thinks he can beat the game, he thinks he knows what the next card coming out the deck is going to be, he thinks he knows that the next roll of the slot machine is going to be the one etc.
So, how do you turn random people into gamblers? You PROVE THEM you found an actual method to actually beat the game, and you prove it in an incontestable way just so that nobody can prove you wrong. This is going to cost you some money btw, let's say 500 bucks, but you'll make a lot more in a day so...
Basically, here's what you do:
1) You create a fake Baypal balance, just log into your Baypal account and select the values, right click, then "inspect". Now you can edit whatever you want and create a fake balance showing fake payments from whatever company you want (name of the casino, will explain later, but you have to put money in the casino, lose some, and then get it back on Baypal so that you know the exact name that will appear when you receive payments). This would only be illegal only if you were selling the method, but you're going to give it away for free (because it's not a method) so no worries.

BLA BLA BLA. I'm a MATH graduate and i couldn't get a job anywhere, let alone a well paid job. BLA BLA BLA."
3) You then start talking about the money you made while moving your cursor ONTO the numbers so that people will see it's not a screenshot that you could've photoshopped because the page is interacting, because it's a real page, just edited. You basically just say stuff like “so you can see my balance now is 36k which is not all the money i made in this past month/month and a half, you can see i received these payments here, i was testing it first, made the first 221,64 bucks here, then 743,85 (remember not-so-perfect numbers have more impact), then i started doing this seriously and we got to 4k, 13k, and 28k today.”
4) You then keep talking for a bit about how crazy this is and it has changed your life, make sure the whole talk lasts about 3-4mins, then say “let’s not waste any time here, let me show you how this works”. And you stop recording. This will be the first part of the video just save it as it is, you’ll find out why later.
5) Open up whatever online casino you’re going to promote (will discuss on how to get your affiliate link later) on which you already loaded 50 euros or dollars, then start recording again, this will be the second part of the video, but people will not even notice the cut.
Say “this method works in online casinos. Okay i know what you’re thinking, don’t worry this is not one of those black-red tricks that don’t work, they’re scams and we all know that, this is a new method and works, as you saw on my Baypal, but i will show it to you live. So, you have to apply this cycle while placing your bets, this cycle actually kinda works, but it just makes your chances of winning slightly above 50%, it’s nothing special, but looks like it. What you do is you keep betting the colors of the cycle all the time, while explaining what you’re doing with confidence, betting 0,10€ at a time, saying this is exactly where you started from. If you win you place the minimum bet again, if you lose you double up, if you lose again you double up again, but you keep following the sequence as a cycle.
Explain that this is the classic double-up, but it’s very different because YOU HAVE A PRECISE SEQUENCE THAT CAN’T BE REVERSE-FOLLOWED ALL THE TIME, and thus is 100% winning, all of this while proving it, while still suggesting the more you bet the more money you make.
This might go very wrong and you’d end up wasting 50€, if that happens (took me 6 trys, 300€, to get the right one) record this part of the video from scratch and load 50 more euros, as i said this will cost you money. 8) Go back to the casino, try until you win one bet so that it will show (that’s really hard to edit), then edit your balance to around 56€. Start the stopwatch again from 0:00, and go back to the casino page.
9) When 5 mins or so have passed start recording FROM THE CASINO PAGE, go the the stopwatch, stop it, and say “so that was 5 mins”. 10) Pull out a table you previously created, showing bets, expected earnings and SAFETY RATIOS (totally made up).
Basically, 0,10 lost bets doubling up 9 times (which will look very very rare if step 4 went correctly) will require a 51,20€ balance for ABSOLUTE certainty, 25,20€ for VERY GOOD CERTAINTY and 6,40€ for GOOD CERTAINTY, create the rest of the board according to other bet options. Then on a side of the board show hourly and monthly potential earnings working 2 hours a day, so let’s say 60€ an hour as in hour example (point out that you usually go faster than what you did during the chronometer) and this will result in 3.600€ a month with 2 hours a day.
Explain the table and talk about the great earnings you can achieve with just 0,10 bets or 0,20 bets with just 2 hours a day, and then talk about the earnings you can achieve with higher bets, that REQUIRE CERTAINTY. Say “How do you get certainty, with a higher balance, here’s what we have, for 0,10 bets 6,40€ is good certainty, 25,20 is very good certainty and 51,20 is absolute certainty”. Suggest people to do 1€ bets (that require 512€ for absolute certainty) because they will be able to make 36k a month with just 2 hours IF THEY DO THIS SLOWLY, one hour if they do it faster. So, this is how you create the gambler-maker video that will turn random people into real gamblers. Make sure you make the youtube video “not listed” if you want to be really safe, because even thought this is legal it’s really immoral, and i suggest you to take it down after you made enough money to start a morally legit business, make sure the video doesn’t go super viral or you’ll be forever known in history as the scammer guy, trust me, you might end on tv sooner than you think, so make sure you take everything down if the views start getting out of hand, and my best advice is to take it down anyway after making 200k out of this, that’s enough money to start an insanely profitable online business very easily, a business that would make you 50k a month too, but morally.
I don’t care about morality, but being tagged as a scammer won’t be good for you, so avoid that at all costs.
Enjoy the money you’ll be making by tricking a casino into thinking you're just an amateur blogger who has fun playing games while in reality you're turning strangers into gambling addicts (even tho most people will quit after wasting a grand or so, sometimes less, a grand could be 3k commissions for you tho) and don’t start gambling yourself, the method doesn’t work, i can guarantee, just looks like it if you’re lucky enough to get it on video. it’s just like the dudeperfect videos or the yeahigotskills guy, those are not 1st try shots, but look like it.

Three Carnival Games and Some Attractions

I recently saw this post by u/ajcaulfield on here, which inspired me to come up with some of my own carnival attractions and games! So here's what I got. Feel free to leave any suggestions, these haven't been mass-playtested yet and could maybe use some balancing.
Games

Hot Hog Eating Contest

In what may be the first active use of a Constitution throw I could think of, I wanted to bring this classic fair game into DnD. I see two ways of running this, but both involve a Constitution Saving Throw or Skill Check (perhaps with proficiency if your PC is known to be a big eater?)
Either you prepare a list with fixed DC to roll against, in which case it could be
DC15 - third place
DC18 - second place
DC20 - first place
or you leave things up to chance completely and roll a BUNCH of d20 for the number of participants involved. I suggest no more than 10 participants overall, so however many PCs enter + a number of d20 for other competitors. The highest roll then wins.
The catch:
Eating a bunch of Hot Hogs at once is not something everyone can stomach, literally. If you roll below a certain DC (I picked 10, because I imagine eating this much food would cause a LOT of people to get sick) will cause the participant to throw up and be disqualified from the competition.

Target Shooting Range

I got this idea from playing Paper Mario: Origami King and thought it was interesting, so I tried to translate it into DnD. In Origami King, there is a shuriken shooting range in which you have one minute to amass exactly 21 points. No more, no less. There are targets with positive values and targets with negative values on them. You have to make strategical decisions when to hit what target, because your shooter has a delay.
My idea for translating this into DnD:
You have 10 rounds to amass the 21 points and 10 arrows/shuriken/wha thave you. Each round there are four targets to be hit: 1d4 and 1d6 with positive value and 1d4 and 1d6 with negative value. Every round a ranged weapon attack with (weapon you choose to equip this range with, I chose bow and arrow) can be made in order to hit one of the four targets.
The catch:
To hit a target successfully, a DC of 10 must be surpassed. If the participant rolls a nat 1, they hit one of the other three targets, at the DMs disgression.
There is a bunch of luck involved, but it's manageable to do in 10 rounds, and when are carnival games ever not about luck over actual skill?

Slot Machine

Not gonna lie, I just liked the idea of a one-armed bandit incorporated into the dice throwing system somehow, so here's what I got:
3d8 are rolled for a line-up. I'm running my carnival with prize-tickets, but I guess it would work just as well with GP. If you're playing DnD, you're already into some sort of gambling anyways, so why not?
Output:
2 same digits - double the number of eyes in GP (or 1 festival ticket)
3 adjacent digits (like 4,5,6) - triple the number of eyes in GP (or 3 festival ticket)
3 same digits - 10x the number of eyes in GP (or 5 festival tickets)
Lucky 777 - 500GP (or 20 festival tickets)

Other Attractions

Ferris Wheel, Carousel, Steamtrain-Rollercoaster

Depending on how technologically advanced your setting is, all of these are a must-have for a bigger carnival or town fair. When riding any of these, have your players roll a Con Save (if they've already been on any of the other attractions or have participated in the Hot Hog Eating Contest, with disadvantage) to see if they get sick. For Ferris Wheel and Carousel I suggest a DC7, for the Rollercoaster maybe something higher like a DC12.

House of Mirrors

Another classic fair attraction that I think could make for fun shenanigans.
Have your players roll a Perception or Survival check to successfully navigate the house. You could even incorporate a race similar to the hot hog eating competition, where the highest roll wins the race.
Oh, and also if you roll a Perception DC20+, you might just find that jester who's been trapped in one of the mirrors and might like to be rescued some time.

Haunted House

The easiest to pull of in a magical fantasy setting, since you can just put in real ghosts and undead, and no one will be any the wiser!
Unless if course, they fail their Wisdom Saving Throw with a 1, then they might get attacked by the real deal. If they don't beat the DC12, they'll get a good scare out of it at the very least and become Frightened by the house.

Food Stall

My players are very stingy with their money, so to trick them into both spending some coin and also actually participating in any of the games and attractions, I made my entire fair run on those festival tickets that I mentioned earlier. If they don't want to win prizes, at least the food will make them go for some of the games.
Popcorn - 5 tickets
Cotton Candy - 5 tickets
Ice Cream - 5 tickets
Fried potatoes - 8 tickets
Magic Jelly Bean - 20 tickets

Magic Jelly Beans?

Oh yeah, those are a thing. I came up with a table of random things to happen when you eat one of those. Mostly harmless things, like your skin becoming purple or your breath becoming minty, to beneficial things like temporary advantages on skill checks, to more negative results like being shocked by electricity, spontaneous combustion, or just straight up death.
The thing is, the more beans you eat, the more likely you are to receive the cool benefits as well as your chance of death by candy. I have a d20 table with effects prepared which is rolled the first time someone eats a jelly bean. Then the die is reduced to a d12 for the second bean eaten, d10 for the third, and so on, until eventually there is a 25% chance of death when eating a jelly bean, but also a 50% chance of something incredibly cool happening. Who's up for some Russian Roulette?

So, yeah.

I'm not excited for Season 6

Tl;dr: Season 5 is great for the most part, but the lagginess, glitchiness, SBMM, repetitiveness and cheaters ruin an otherwise great game and I'm tired of these issues constantly being here. Which leads me to feeling a sense of dread for season 6. What are your thoughts, gamers?
Every season this game has come out I've had at least one reason to be excited but this upcoming season I'm not feeling so much. I like season 5 the most out of any season but I have played this season the least and I've been playing since Season 1 first came out. I love this game, I really do but I'm just tired of the same old same old. Same maps, same schemes to get us to spend money, same cheaters/hackers, same guns and the same weapons meta.
Before you say anything I've used more guns and characters this season than ever before. I currently use every character but Watson at least once every two weeks. I tend to gravitate towards anything but the r99/r301 if I can find better attachments and decent ammo for other guns. I have tried using strat roulette for a bit of fun but none of my friends play anymore so I'm always solo which means regardless of my individual skill I've always got hit or miss teammates and the biggest hits are much fewer and far between than the biggest misses.
The SBMM sees you have a good few games and puts you into insane lobbies for the next 10 games. Then you play games in borderline noob lobbies until you have 2 good games so essentially after two games then it's right back to the insanity. There never seems to be an in between but every once a week or so where you play with people actually on or slightly above your skill level so you can have fun battles rather than one sided rage inducing garbage.
For some reason I had the smoothest experience ever with Apex this season up until the first event they dropped with the comically bad Wraith skin (hit box issues, I mean) and it seemed to bring the lag and glitchiness back with it in full force, mirroring what made me clock out early on the last season with the Old Ways Event which was so horrible.
I'm tired of the game some days being good and others being so bad that animations are even jagged and cause you to miss shots by distracting you.
The player base is really hurting or so it seems. When you keep getting the same 6 combinations of people every game you start to wonder if anyone is even playing the game at all. Which is weird because it happens at peak hours on PS4. I don't know if that's a SBMM thing or if it's just the lack of players in general but I get the feeling it's lack of players.
I have spent more games this season alone than any other. Constantly spawning in with no teammates or teammates that disconnect before we get out of the drop ship and I'm left flying with their carcass just waiting to give someone a free kill.
Don't even get me started on ranked. Nothing will ever be more demotivating than the ranked split. Every single time it just makes me give up because I end up making it right back to Plat only to be thrown back down to Silver and dealing with bronze teammates and higher level Plat/Diamond enemies (just after the split so their ranks are actually higher) is all just an overall bad experience.
I'm really hoping Respawn can for once get the game where it needs to be and give us a new map and meta that is fresh and more engaging. I think nerfing path was a good move but so long as Gibby is still in the game and caustic gas canister spam persists, the game will never be fully balanced.
All of this is to say, I'm not excited for Season 6 and I predict it will be the season a lot of others jump ship too for what may end up being the final blow to this game. I could be wrong, but I'm starting to feel like I'm not.
Now onto the good things they've done because I don't want this to be too negative.
I like the new iteration of Kings Canyon. I think it looks nice, plays well and I generally have a much higher opinion of it than I do World's Edge though I do believe the current iteration of Worlds Edge is better than the last.
I think that the character balance is as good as it has been probably ever. With a few exceptions which I stated before. Though I am of the belief that maybe shaving 5 seconds off of paths grapple cool down would be the sweet spot.
The guns overall feel good except that I feel the spitfire is a little under powered and the havoc is still supremely overpowered. The Havoc is still the easiest gun to hip fire kill with in my opinion though I do think the horizontal recoil added and the smaller clip size helps with mid-range engagement a little bit and makes it more fair.
The change to Lifeline is such a killer change and really makes her a lot more useful in ranked and even pubs. Her kit feels more like what her title suggests though it should be noted that a dev (I can't remember who) and I disagree as they stated that fast heals was just "power given" go the player just for picking her and you can't "outplay someone" with it. To which I being up Gibraltar and his God awful arm shield that can soak up a whole Kraber bullet.
Overall this season has brought a load of great new changes but it still has it's whole host of problems since the games very launch. I don't know how much longer I can let them get by with the fact that it's a free to play game as I'm sure they've made at least as much off of skins as they would have off of releasing the game as a standard $60 game.

FFXIV New Player Guide 2020/03

This is a work in progress of a new player primer and guide as the old one is nearly 3 years old. Let me know what you think.
Edit: August 25th: updated for current trial changes.
So you're a new or prospective player with questions. Well I'm going to try and answer the big ones.

Questions about getting started

Is it a good time to get into FFXIV?: Yes. FFXIV launched it's third expansion in Summer 2019 and it is one of the most critically acclaimed games from last year and most acclaimed MMO expansions. Class balance is fantastic right now. Playerbase is growing and active. There is regular content every few months (main patches with smaller updates between) and just an absurd amount of content to do.
Does this game require parties?: It is pretty heavy on 4 person dungeons and 8 person boss fights but there is fantastic matchmaking.
What is endgame like?: Endgame is really whatever you want. There is high end raiding, master trader crafters and gatherers, Housing, Roleplay, a really great glamour system. optiosn are pretty endless.
How do I start?: do the free trial first. It's free, doesn't require a subscription and lets you get to level 60 on ALL jobs and classes that are part of the base game or Heavensward, the first expansion.
Does World or Data Center matter?: Data Center matters a good bit, worlds less. You can party up with and match with anyone on your data center. The only restriction to Worlds are you can only be in a Free Company (Clan) based in your world. They do have Fellowships and linkshells that are cross-world. If you have friends on a world definitely try and play on that world as it's better ot be in the same world. Here is a summary of world statuses. Congested worlds cannot take new characters. Preferred worlds give double experience until you reach 70 for 90 days. Standard worlds are standard. Standard or even Preferred worlds can temporarily block character creation during peak windows if they are higher on population; try during lighter windows such as early in the morning. World status is updated with non hotfix updates. Transferring later costs $18 USD. Some worlds on the Europe data centers focus on certain languages. Some worlds also focus on roleplay if that's what you want.
How do I buy if I like it?: There is the Starter Edition which is $20 USD and included the base game and Heavensward; this will get rid of trial restrictions. Shadowbringers expansion is $40 USD and includes the prior expansion Stormblood. There is also a complete Edition with both of those for $60 USD. Starter edition or completed edition include 30 days of game time.
How do I get everything setup?: Generally through SE's website for this game called Mogstation. Link
For PC should I buy from Steam or Square Enix?: Both are fine BUT you are locked to that environment for PC forever. If the steam servers are down you may not be able to play; there are some technical workarounds but they may change as SE updates the launcher. Square Enix is a little safer. I've seen sales on both platforms but they usually are at different times.
Is there a subscription?: Yes. It is $13 for one character per world or $15 for up to 8 characters per world. This is world not Data Center.
Is this subscription worth it?: No one can tell you what your money is worth. I personally have spent much less money per hour of playtime in FFXIV than I have with almost any other game. I do recommend paying month to month or with time cards so you can more regularly evaluate your subscription.
What matters in character creation?: Very little. Race matters extremely little to stats at all. Same for chosen deity. Starting class only chooses which city you start in and this only matters for the first 15 levels. You can level every single class and job on one character and it is awesome. Appearance can be changed with an item called a Fantasia. You get one for free after beating the base game story (around level 50). They can also be purchased on the game store for $10 (less if bought in multiples). Name can be changed for $10.
Is there a referral program?: There is. Another player can give you a refer a friend code which you need to enter before you pay your first subscription. The referrer gets some rewards and the new player gets some gear including a headband which boosts experience below level 25.

So you've played for a little and are overwhelmed? Here I will try and help out.

New player tips:

Is there a wiki?: There are two really: Consolegames and GamerEscape. Consolegames is better for quests and Gamerescape is better for item information in my experience.
What should I be doing?: generally when in doubt do your main story (MSQ, quest symbols that look like meteors). Side quests with + signs and blue backgrounds unlock new things. Normal gold quest markers are side quests and may give gear or items or jut experience. Do your job quests as you play as they give gear and new skills. But also do what you enjoy. There's a lot of freedom.
How do classes work?: Classes and jobs are classified as DPS, healers and tanks. Normal parties require 2 DPS, one healer, and one tank. Classes can be upgraded to jobs at level 30 by following job quests. Jobs are stronger and better in every way. Expansion jobs don't have classes. Arcanist can become two jobs: Scholar and Summoner which are a healer and DPS respectively. Classes info and Jobs info. You can level every single job on one character. Every class or job has a different level but shares story progression. Jobs lower than your highest level job get boosted experience.
How do I play my class/job?: There are good guides online but they focus mostly on endgame. Read your tooltips. There is also SE's job guide which gives some tips and has all the tooltips conveniently. It also just takes practice. Don't have to be perfect Day 1, just keep trying.
How do I play my role?: There is a great in-game training tool called Hall of the Novice. It is available in any of the major cities at an NPC called the Smith who has a big sprout icon above his head. This training is pretty basic but really helps. It also gives a good set of level 15 armor that can last at least 5 levels and a ring that boosts experience until level 30. What gear do I equip and where from?: In the character menu there's a recommended equipment button. Use that. There's some niches when it doesn't work but starting out it's fine. Gear can be obtained from quests, vendors, crafting or dungeons. Job must match your class or role.
How do I level?: the MSQ will cover nearly all your leveling on your first class/job. In expansions you may have to supplement with other tools. For the first 15 levels your Hunt log is really solid experience; just pull it up and kill the things it tells you to the number of times it tells you to. Dungeons starting at 15 become a really good source of experience. Dungeons do have matchmaking time which can be longer for dps. There is a role neutral deep dungeon called Palace of the Dead which is available starting at level 17 (being role neutral you may not learn your job well for the rest of the game). FATEs (world events) can help a little but generally don't give great experience till later expansions. Roulettes give boosted experience once a day and are good.
What are roulettes and why should I do them?: These mostly focus on dungeons and trials. A roulette is a general category of matchmaking. There is a Dungeon leveling roulette, a trial (boss fight) roulette, a normal raid roulette, an alliance raid roulette (24 player raid), Expert roulette (max level newest dungeons), PvP roulette and a couple other. The experience bonus is huge from roulettes. It also gives currencies for use at current and previous endgame level caps (50, 60, 70, 80). It's really great at incentivizing more experienced players to get matched with newer players and ensure you have good matchmaking for your story instances.
How do I level Faster?: As mentioned above, classes/jobs lower than your highest level class/job get boosted experience (+100% under 70, +50% under 80). The Brand New Ring from Hall of the Novice gives +30% experience under level 30. The Friendship circlet from refer a friend gives +20% experience under level 25 (recommend gear will unequip this so you may have to overwrite that). All food items give +3% experience.
What's the best class/job?: The current class balance is very, very good. There are differences but they are extremely slight. Some roles may be better in certain fights due to mechanics. It largely comes down to opinion, aesthetic and personal preference. Try as much as you can. That's the easiest way to find out. Otherwise ask people what they like.
How do I unlock expansion jobs?: Heavensward (first expansion) jobs (Dark Knight, Machinist, and Astrologian) cannot be unlocked until you reach the Heavenward story (around 100 quests post level 50). You unlock these in the main city of that expansion in Ishgard. HW jobs start at level 30. Stormblood (second expansion) jobs (Samurai and Red Mage) are a bit easier. You have to have a level 50 job and they will start at level 50. Shadowbringers jobs require being level 60 and start at level 60.
How do I get to endgame?: hit level 80 and complete all the current story. It will take a while. I don't recommend you rush. You can level and story boost for money but you really miss out on a lot of enjoyable content.
How do I dye and glamour?: Dyeing is unlocked at level 15 near the Waking Sands. Dyeing requires dye for however many items you want to dye. These can be crafted, purchased from vendors or purchased on the market board. Glamours are unlocked at level 15 as well near the Waking Sands. Glamour lets you cast the appearance of an item onto another item. Doing this costs a glamour prism. You can only glamour things to a job that would already be equippable. So no job specific gear on different jobs. If you will be glamouring a lot use glamour plates and the glamour chest in any inn in a major town. Glamour plates let you setup a glamour loadout from items in your glamour chest and apply it at will if you are in a major town. You can even link it to a loadout. With plates and the glamour chest you only use glamour prisms when you put something in the glamour chest. Quest items can be stored in another container called the armoire for free.
What can I change on my appearance?: for gil you can change your hair and makeup and related things through the Aesthetician in inns. A potion called a Fantasia lets you do a full appearance and race change. You get one after completing the base game story at level 50. Others can be bought for $10 USD on the game store.
When do I get a mount?: Level 20 from the quest My Little Chocobo once you join a grand company (in game factions). Mounts can fly once you clear the base game story. In Expansion areas you have to do quests and collect aether currents for the area you want to fly in. You're also not stuck using your starting mount: you can acquire many mounts from many sources.
What about crafting and gathering?: These are definitely helpful. You won't need them for your first job but they can help get gear and make some money in game. If crafting it is helpful to also level gatherers so you can be self sufficient on resources. If crafting you generally need to level 7 out of 8 of the crafter roles as they all rely on eachother. The exception is Culinarian which uses a different resource pool entirely. On gatherers you need Botanist and Minor for most crafts. Fisher is generally on its own but feeds into Culinarian.
